Ways to Hush Your Baby

There are times when it seems that babies cry for no reason. If feeding or giving toys won’t work and you have no idea on how to stop them from crying, maybe these tips will help.

  • Babies are sensitive to sound. Any loud ruckus will surely annoy them or make them cry. Talk softly to them and play any baby sounds or lullaby. Want him or her to fall asleep, play a lullaby tune via mobile phone app or TV, turn on the air conditioning or electric fan (gentle breeze please), and sit on the rocking chair while cradling him or her.

  • If you want your baby to fall asleep, dim the lights and make a hushing sound. You may also download a baby sleep app which produces lullaby music or endless sound recording of a hair dryer or air conditioning. That kind of sound is said to be similar to the sound babies hear while in the womb so if it’s familiar to them, they may oblige and fall asleep. Try gently stroking or rubbing his/her forehead with your thumb and sooner or later, he/she may fall asleep.

  • Wrap baby (not too tightly) especially a newborn in a baby blanket. Swaddling can be helpful since the tightness can be familiar to that of the womb. It also keeps him/her warm.
  • For months old or year old babies, let them watch their favorite shows and they may stop crying. If the show isn’t on yet, use your DVD copies or youtube it.
